The waiting room was small.

The waiting room was the kind of waiting room that exists in a town like Bangor: three plastic chairs in a row, a low table with a ten-year-old copy of Down East, a window that looked out onto a parking lot where the snow had been plowed into small careful mountains. The walls were the color of weak tea. The carpet was the color of the walls.
