The Room Inside
The music hit me first. Some slow, throbbing thing with a bass line I could feel through the soles of my boots. The solstice party was still going, even past midnight. Pack members spilled out the front door, some with cups in hand, others leaning against the railing, their breath fogging in the cold.
I killed the engine and sat there for a second, hands still on the wheel. The headlights I'd noticed on the drive up had turned off at the main road, but I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Paranoia, maybe. Or maybe Kael was smarter than I wanted to give him credit for.
