The blackout hit like a physical blow. One second, the hall blazed with string lights and the warm glow of candles. The next, nothing. Absolute, swallowing darkness that pressed against my eyes like wool. The music died mid-note, leaving a ringing silence that lasted exactly one heartbeat before chaos broke loose.

I couldn't see. Couldn't breathe. My hands flew out instinctively, finding nothing but air where Declan had been standing a moment ago. Around me, the party dissolved into screams and the sharp crash of glass hitting the floor. Someone's elbow caught my ribs. A body shoved past me, reeking of panic and spilled beer.
